synopsis

On a long train journey from Jodhpur, I welcomed the warp and stains of the carriage windows as a filter bringing to the frame form and feeling that rang strange and true and resonated with memories of Australian heat and mineral and sand and an ancient endless expanse. Why Leaving? The title conveys the sense of a breath held, of an eternal leaving, as the train makes its way across rural Rajasthan. It’s a kind of meditation on pushing out into space without a tether and allowing oneself to be carried along, quite aside from the question of a destination.
